Facts about Leaderheads
Leader heads can also be called as conductor heads, rain collectors, collector head, rainwater head, rainhead, scupper boxes, conductor boxes and gutter heads. Leader heads enhance both contemporary and traditional architecture. Traditionally, they were placed under a soffit to introduce air into the line, thus preventing excess noise (gurgling and swishing). Doing so helps reduce or eliminate vacuum lock- water trapped in the system by air. They are also used under a low area to drain water down the system.
Installed at a valley end, the box will allow much more water to pass through than a typical gutter. They will collect water from a flat room that passes through a parapet wall. Also, leader heads may be used where two downspouts converge. Custom homes tend to use them at the top of the gutter for their aesthetic appeal.
So what??
Leaderhead are a great upsell! They are very common in the historic or luxury home market and add a greater level of detail and appeal to the work. Many homeowners are usually not aware of the option. We suggest introducing it as an option or suggesting the add to your architect partners.
