Summer Gutter and Roof Tips
Summer is a great time to go out and make sure your roof and gutters are in tip-top shape. The more you are able to take care of now, the less you will have to do when it is cold, rainy or snowy, or covered in leaves and other such debris. If you want to make sure that your roof is in good condition for the upcoming seasons, here are a few tips on what to make sure you do.
A following warning for the following tips: please do not attempt to clean gutters or roofs if you do not have the proper safety equipment. Ornametals is providing this information for free but your safety is your responsibility. Hiring a professional is always a great idea. Do only what you can do safely.
Tip #1: Clean The Excess Debris Up
You want to make sure that you never leave debris sitting on your roof or in your gutters. This can lead to a wide range of issues, from leaks to rusting to animals making a home in your attic! So, pick a day that is nice and sunny, but not excessively hot, and go up to your roof. Clean everything off of your roof first by tossing it into bins or sweeping it off your roof, then do your gutters. Make sure no clumps are remaining when you are done that could lead to molding problems down the line.
Tip #2: Inspect Your Roof and Gutters
Take the time to walk around your roof when you are done cleaning it off and look for anything that seems off. You want to look for any shingles that are lifted up, holes in your roof or in any of your gutters, or shaded or dark spots. You also want to feel your roof as you walk around. If your feet let you know that there is a soft spot on your roof, check it out as there may have been a leak, and your rafters could be having a bit of trouble from the damage.
Tip #3: Do the Roof and Gutter Repairs You Can, and Call In the Pros for The Rest
If you notice a small issue that you feel comfortable with correcting, then make the repair. Fix the small holes, reattach your gutters to the house securely, or tack down any loose shingles. Any of the repairs that you do not feel comfortable fixing, call in a professional roofing company to fix it.
Leaving it alone will not correct the problem, and could leave you with a lot of issues when the rain and snow come around this year. Professionals have the knowledge and experience to get the repairs done quickly, and for a much lower cost than you probably think, so call them over and find out how they can help keep you, and your home, safe.
A metal roof and copper or zinc gutters help eliminate many of these issues. Aluminum and shingles are just not a life-long roofing solution. If you’d like to learn more about getting only one gutter system your whole life, give us a call.
